Stray Dog Brewing Co.

Beer Can Design

The Context behind designing these labels:
I aimed to create eye-catching beer labels that not only look unique but also share a bit about where they come from. Making them stand out on the shelf was a key goal, and I wanted to emphasize that these beers are from our local neighborhood.

Client Expectation:
My goal was to capture people's attention with visually appealing labels to showcase the uniqueness of the beers and add some pictures of familiar places in Ottawa.

The Plan:
I used a similar style to Stray Dog Brewing's other cans styles for a cohesive look and drew simple pictures in black and changed the bottom colour for visual interest.

Design Process:
I did some research to learn more about the local breweries then checked out pictures of famous places in Ottawa as well. I started to learn more about Stray Dog Brewing particularly and discovered that Stray Dog Brewing is a cool company started by friends who loved making beer at home and turned it into a real business in 2017. They offer different types of beers, like IPAs, stouts, and lagers, and occasionally some special ones. They also sell cool stuff like glasses and shirts. Their focus is on making good beer, being eco-friendly, and being part of the community.

Getting Creative:
Came up with two label ideas - one inspired by our National Gallery and another by the tulip, each with its own cool story.

Challenges:
Learning about beer was a bit hard as it's not my usual area of expertise and figuring out how to think of special flavours and reflect the local touch was a fun challenge.

Conclusion:
It was a fun inspiring journey as I got familiar with many things I didn't have any knowledge of before this project. Also, practicing different aspects of creativity combining typography and creativity in the illustration and design, and choosing colour was a journey full of fun.
